This 1971 Chrysler 383 is the South African C-Body version of the Newport sold in the States. Big body. Big block. Proper Mopar presence. Same owner for more than a decade. Bought it as it stands, with its current paint and original interior. The paint is older but not factory original. The interior is still original, tear and all.

It sounds like a 383 should. Deep and aggressive without trying too hard. The 727 gearbox was fitted in 2015 and has just been rebuilt by Ters 200 km ago. The brake booster has also just been done. Mechanically, it’s strong. It runs and drives well. This car has done real miles. Numerous classic rallies across South Africa and into Swaziland and Mozambique. It’s a usable classic, not a trailer car. The odometer shows around 69,666 km and its paperwork is in order.
 
The honest bits:
Power steering box leaks and needs a seal.
 
There is rust on the vehicle, but nothing structural.
 
The front seat has a tear.
 
The paint is older and not original.
 
This is a solid base for an enthusiast. Drive it as is and enjoy the noise and torque. Or take it further and restore it properly. It’s loud. It cruises well, and it has the right bones for someone who understands what a big block C-Body is about.
